At approximately 3:15 p.m. today, Rancho Cordova police officers and Sheriff’s deputies responded to the intersection of Bradshaw Road and Lincoln Village Drive regarding a vehicle rollover accident. Upon arriving, officers found the driver of the car unresponsive inside. It was learned that a male passenger had fled from the scene just after the accident, but later discovered that he had gone to summon assistance.
Witnesses reported that the vehicle, a 2000 Mercury sedan, was traveling at a high rate of speed westbound on Lincoln Village Drive, approaching Bradshaw Road. The vehicle struck an island in the northeast portion of the intersection, before careening across Bradshaw Road and into the lot of a school on the west side of the street. The vehicle rolled up a pedestrian ramp on the north side of the school before overturning and coming to rest.
This incident is being investigated by the Rancho Cordova Police Department’s Traffic Unit. The exact cause of the accident is still undetermined, and it is unknown whether the victim died from injuries sustained in the collision, or from complications due to some other medical condition.
No other vehicles were involved in this incident, and there were no injuries to any persons other than the driver. The identity of the victim in this case will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office, after notification has been made to his next of kin.
