American Fire near Foresthill Grows to 9,700 Acres

The American Fire is expected to keep firefighting personnel busy as it continues to torch thousands of acres in Placer County.

The fire is situated outside the community of Foresthill , CA which is located northeast of Auburn.

The smoke from the fire has impacted air quality and visibility across a large area in both the mountains and Sacramento Valley. Air quality advisories have been issued.

The fire is consuming forest land at a rapid rate and has consumed approximately 2,000 acres since yesterday. The steep, rugged terrain along with very hot and dry conditions is making to difficult for firefighters to gain the upperhand on the blaze. Containment is reported to be holding steady at 31%.

The weekend forecast is not expected to give much rest to the nearly 1,400 weary firefighters tackling the blaze. Heat and low humidity are forecast to blanket the area for at least several days. Temperatures in the region are expected to top out in the mid to upper 90’s.
