Benefit concert May 7 in Rocklin for James Bourne

A group of area musicians are gathering for a benefit concert to raise money in memory of former Oakmont High School athlete James Bourne, who died unexpectedly at his home recently in Antelope.

The event will be held Tuesday, May 7 from 6:30-9:30 p.m. at Kona Coffee, located at 6843 Lonetree Blvd. in Rocklin. A $15 donation to attend the musical evening will go to Bourne’s family.

The event is being organized by Rocklin musician Quinn Hedges, a longtime friend of Bourne’s. Other area musicians scheduled to appear are Ken Koenig, Josh Dale Krage, Dean Haakenson, Mike Woodall, Chris Hagens, Chad Wagoner, Zack Proteau, Lare Garcia, and Bernie Hedges.

Bourne, 33, was a standout water polo player at both Oakmont High and later at Sierra College where he played goalie for the Wolverines. After his playing days concluded, Bourne coached water polo.

A memorial service for Bourne will be held Saturday, May 11 at 1 p.m. at the Arden Playhouse, located at 5640 Roseville Road, Suite D, Sacramento.
