SACRAMENTO, Calif. — For the first time ever, the Sacramento Association of Museums (SAM) will offer an interactive and fun booth at the California State Fair (July 11-27, 2014) in an effort to showcase the variety and diversity of offerings available in our region. State Fair guests are invited to imagine, explore and discover more about local museums and destinations at the visually-exciting Sacramento Museums booth that will be located in Building A on the bottom floor next to the State Fair Post Office.
In addition to providing helpful information about all 30 SAM member museums, the Sacramento Museums booth will include a number of hands-on activities every day that include the following:
* Guests can experience what flying is like inside an airplane cockpit simulator provided by the Aerospace Museum of California;
* Visitors can learn to pan for gold in a mini-trough provided by the Sacramento History Museum;
* Fairgoers can sit behind a vintage school desk on loan from the Old Sacramento Schoolhouse Museum;
* Interested guests can take pictures in front of a special backdrop provided by the Sacramento Children’s Museum.
California State Fair guests are encouraged to visit the Sacramento Museums booth more than once as it will be staffed by different museums each day of the fair. Additional hands-on activities will also be available and provided by the “Museum of the Day” which will include (but is not limited to) these popular museums and local destinations: California Automobile Museum, California State Railroad Museum, Crocker Art Museum, Discovery Museum Science & Space Center, Fairytale Town, Governor’s Mansion State Historic Park, Heidrick Ag History Center, Museum of Medical History, Old Sacramento Schoolhouse Museum, Sacramento Children’s Museum, Sacramento History Museum, Sacramento Zoo and Sojourner Truth Multicultural Arts Museum.
