FOLSOM – A correctional officer is being treated for injuries he suffered from an attack by a California State Prison-Sacramento, inmate Friday afternoon.
At 3:20 p.m. May 9, an officer was on duty when inmate Sidney Petillo, 39, began swinging his arms and striking the officer in his face and another officer in the chest.
About 45 minutes after the incident, the officer complained of being light-headed and almost fell to the ground. He was transported to an area hospital, where he was diagnosed with a concussion.
Inmate Petillo was subdued and will be placed in the Administrative Segregation Unit.
Inmate Petillo was committed to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation on Aug. 29, 1994, from Los Angeles County to serve a sentence of life with the possibility of parole for second-degree murder. He received a consecutive two-year sentence in July 1995 for battery on a peace officer while in prison.
The matter will be referred to the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
