West Sacramento, California -The inaugural West Sacramento Cyclocross Grand Prix is taking place on Saturday, September 6, starting at 10:15 a.m. This community event brings together cyclocross racing, local beer, food trucks and live music at the River Walk Park at 651 Second Street. Bike racers of all levels are encouraged to participate. Beginner races begin at 10:15 a.m. with professional/expert women’s and men’s races concluding the event. The closed race course will take place right along the Sacramento River between the I Street Bridge and the Tower Bridge and more than 250 racers are expected to compete. This race has the largest women’s professional payout in the State of California and cash and prizes for all podium winners.
Two unique one lap races will be open to kids and adults. The Kid’s Race, is available to any child under the age of nine . Older children and adults will have the same opportunity during the Mayor’s Lap. Both races will start at 2 p.m. For race requirements go to www.wscxgp.com.
Admission to the races and all amenities at the event are free to the general public. Two local bands, Pets and Sneeze Attack!, will be performing throughout the day. Food and drinks will be available from Bike Dog, DogTown and California Love Truck.
Cyclocross is the nation’s fastest-growing sport according to USA Cycling. It is a form of bicycle racing where competitors race laps around a course featuring grass, dirt, mud, gravel, sand and obstacles. Winners are determined by time and not distance.
