Beginning Friday, November 30 at 8 p.m., at the ComedySportz Sacramento theater, members of ComedySportz Sacramento and several guest groups will perform improvisational comedy for 26.5 continuous hours to raise donations for the charity Toys-For-Tots.
The Improv-A-Thon will culminate Sat., Dec. 1 at 8 p.m. in a comedy competition between well-rested performers and performers who have been awake for the entire event. ComedySportz General Manager Chris Crotty is hoping a large turnout will give families much-needed aid during the Christmas season.
“This year we are again supporting Toys-For-Tots,” Crotty said. “It’s an amazing charity that we have worked with in the past. Toys-for-Tots has believes that every child deserves a toy for Christmas, and we here at ComedySportz couldn’t agree more.” Because of the fun challenge and the good cause, the Improv-A-Thon is very popular with the ComedySportz players. Many of the performers are vying for a spot on the sleep deprived team for Saturday night’s highlight match despite the mental and physical toll endured.
“Along with the highlight matches, the event will also feature new and interesting shows developed by our performers since last year,” Improv-A-Thon Event Director Matt Russell said. “There will be something for everyone throughout the entire event.”
People coming to the Improv-A-Thon can receive a discounted ticket with the donation of a new, unwrapped toy. Audience members can also pay full price, and ComedySportz will donate a share of the tickets to Toys-For-Tots.
Tickets for each peak two-hour block are $12, or just $5 with the donation of an unwrapped, new toy. ComedySportz will also donate a portion of full price tickets to Toys-For-Tots. Full event passes for the entire 26.5 hours are $25, or $15 with the donation of a toy.
