As the “most talked about wedding of the year” rapidly approaches, we wanted to share some interesting new statistics from the David’s Bridal “What’s on Brides’ Minds” survey that are relevant to Kim K and her famous fiance. While the couple may have a polarizing effect on the public, many “real life” brides are on the same page when it comes to their own wedding day highs, lows, worries and woes.
What’s on Brides’ Minds
#NO social media
After their proposal video leaked online, Kim and Kanye are said to be enforcing strict social media rules at their ceremony and celebration. According to recent reports, guests will be required to turn in their cell phones for safe keeping until the festivities are over for the evening. The couple is following in the footsteps of other celebrities and our real brides with this new trend of putting digital restrictions on their big day…
- 44% of brides think it is important to have “social media rules” in place at a wedding – with some banning social media entirely.
- More than a third (36%) of brides has considered putting an embargo on all social media posts until after the reception.
Love at First Sight? Not for everyone
Just like the 44% of women in the survey who instantly knew they had found “Mr. Right,” Kanye was sure Kim was the one for him from the moment he laid eyes on her. But Kim was in line with 56% of the women surveyed and didn’t know right away, needing a bit more time to seal the deal.
Save the Drama for Your Mama
When it comes to causing waves in the planning process Kris Jenner takes the [wedding] cake! After all, she’s confessed that she was intimately involved in her future son-in-law’s perfect proposal and is rumored to have been at odds with her daughter over several wedding day decisions. Might this Mother of the Bride (MOB) be a “momzilla” in the making? According to the brides surveyed, moms actually caused the MOST wedding drama with 44% saying the MOB or Mother of the Groom (MOG) became the true wedding “zillas.”
The Name Game
A topic frequently debated is whether Kim will take the last name of her the famous rapper (it is well known that she’s always had a sweet spot for her famous “K” alliteration). Kanye wants his bride to become a “West,” but Kim (and her family) isn’t too sure she wants to drop her maiden name. What path do real brides take?
- 71% of brides surveyed believe in the traditional route and take their husband’s married name
- More than 25% either keep her maiden name (12%) or hyphenate maiden and married names (17%)
