Why: This is the tenth year residents in the Sacramento region have been coming out in May to ride for work, school, shopping, and recreation. May is Bike Month is a campaign to get people on bikes for the first time, as well as encourage regular bicyclists to keep it up. This year’s regional goal is to log two million miles.
The campaign will also encourage people to bicycle to avoid traffic caused by construction projects like Fix50 (www.Fix50.com).
At MayisBikeMonth.com residents can pledge miles to ride during May. Challenge your friends, employers or teams to a mileage competition using the website features and Facebook. Check out the events page for outings large and small throughout the month.
May is Bike Month is coordinated by the Sacramento Area Council of Governments and the region’s transportation management organizations.
