Motorcyclist Killed by Wrong Way Driver on Route 160

On Friday, June 20, 2014, at approximately 10:43 a.m., Elwood Nigh, an 86 year old male from Sacramento, was driving a 2005 Dodge Ram pickup e/b on Richards Blvd and entered State Route 160  going the wrong way n/b in the s/b #1 lane at approximately 30 mph.

A 56 year old male from Sacramento, was driving a 2004 Harley FXSTDI motorcycle s/b on State Route 160 north of Richards Blvd in the #1 lane at approximately 50 mph approaching Nigh’s position.

s the Harley rounded a curved portion of the roadway to the left he was struck head on by the front end of the Dodge. This collision ejected the Harley rider killing him upon impact. The Harley and the Dodge sustained major damage to their front ends. Debris from the Harley struck a Toyota driven by Benjamin Sun, a 42 year old male from Elk Grove causing minor damage to its front end. No other drivers were injured.

Both Nigh and Sun were properly restrained in their seatbelts. The male Harley rider was wearing a full face motorcycle helmet. Alcohol and or drugs were not a contributing factor in this collision.
