On May 20, 2014 at approximately 1:55 p.m., a young male was riding a black 2004 Honda CBR 1000 motorcycle on southbound Watt Avenue north of Blackfoot Way in the #1 lane at a high rate of speed.
The driver allowed the motorcycle to drift to the left where it struck the center median curb and subsequently struck two trees located in the center median. The driver and his female passenger were both ejected from the motorcycle.
The driver sustained fatal injuries at the scene and the minor passenger was transported to Mercy San Juan Medical Hospital with critical injuries. Both were wearing helmets. Watt Avenue was closed from Blackfoot Way to Navaho Drive for approximately 3 hours while investigators processed the scene.
The identity of the driver has not been released pending notification of next of kin. It is unknown if alcohol and/or drugs are a contributing factor in this collision pending a toxicology report. This collision is still under investigation.
