Sheriff’s Homicide detectives have arrested a suspect in connection with the shooting death of a man in south Sacramento County nearly two months ago. Carl Murphy, 32, was taken into custody without incident yesterday by members of the Sheriff’s Major Crimes Bureau, and booked into the Sacramento County Jail. He is being held without bail on a charge of murder.
On October 22, 2012 shortly after 3:30 p.m., Sheriff’s deputies responded to the UC Davis Medical Center regarding a victim being transported there. The victim, identified as Roderick Alexander, 35, sustained a gunshot wound to his head. Five days later, Alexander died as a result of his injuries.
Investigation revealed that the incident took place at Austell Way and Fernridge Drive in south Sacramento, and that another man was with Alexander when they had an encounter with two men. An argument between the two parties led to one man retrieving a handgun and shooting Alexander, before fleeing the scene with his male counterpart. Through investigation, the suspect was determined to be Murphy, who was positively identified as the shooter by the surviving victim.
Detectives are seeking to identify the man who was with Murphy during this incident. He is not considered a suspect, and is only being sought for information at this time.
