Sacramento, CA – The First Tee of Greater Sacramento will hold the 10th Annual The First Tee Invitational, at Del Paso Country Club. It was announced that PGA TOUR player and Sacramento native Kevin Sutherland will serve as Honorary Chairman.
The event will kick off Sunday, September 7th at 4:30 pm at Cafeteria 15L, with a VIP Reception including a fireside chat with Kevin Sutherland; tickets are still available at $75 per person. It is anticipated he will discuss his career, becoming the first Champions Tour player to shoot 59 as well as talking about the upcoming 2015 U. S. Senior Open at Del Paso CC. On Monday, September 8th at Del Paso Country Club, players and sponsors will attend an 11:15 clinic by Sutherland, followed by a tournament shotgun start at Noon, and a few sponsorships and individual slots remain for the tournament.
Sutherland was the first Champions Tour player in history to break 60 when he shot a second-round 59 at the Dick’s Sporting Goods Open in Endicott, N.Y., on Aug. 16. He would go on to finish 7th in the event, only his third on the Champions Tour since turning 50 in July.
A Christian Brothers High School graduate, Sutherland had a very successful run on the PGA Tour, including a win in the 2002 WGC-Accenture Match Play over fellow Sacramento native Scott McCarron. He has been a longtime friend and supporter of The First Tee of Greater Sacramento.
Presented this year by Kaiser Permanente with generous support from founding sponsor Mackie, Wiegand & Dormer, The First Tee Invitational offers a wonderful day of golf, business networking, and friendly competition at a world-class venue.
This tournament has raised in excess of $400,000 over the last 9 years. With this continued financial support, The First Tee of Greater Sacramento will be able to expand programs and outreach activities to more schools, more communities, and more kids. Serving over 10,000 participants and growing daily, The First Tee of Greater Sacramento views character education and values such as Integrity, Honesty, Perseverance and Sportsmanship as the building blocks of a successful adult.
“As business owners with our own families, we are honored to once again partner with The First Tee of Greater Sacramento,” said Bruce Mackie. “We are all well aware that influencing the lives of young boys and girls is of paramount importance, and when we can positively impact the lives of our young people, it is a ‘win-win’. Partnering with an organization whose core values include Honesty, Integrity, Respect and Responsibility is directly aligned with the vision of Mackie, Wiegand & Dormer (former owners of Bodycraft Repair Collision Centers). This makes our partnership with The First Tee of Greater Sacramento a natural fit and we are thrilled to have been able to continue this commitment over the past ten years.”
The First Tee of Greater Sacramento is proud to have the participation of event sponsors NCGA Foundation, Maita Auto Group, Akzo Nobel, Crowe Horwath LLP, Enterprise Rent A Car, Excel Bonds & Insurance Services, Inc., Karen & Dave Roughton, Quest, and Roebelen Contracting, Inc.
