On September 1, 2014 at approximately 4:25 p.m., Maria Guadalupe Valdiva, a 47 year old from Sacramento County was driving a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder w/b on Madison Ave east of Auburn Blvd in the #1 lane at 45 mph in a 45 mph zone, approaching a green light for w/b traffic. Brianna Norman, an 18 year old from Sacramento County was running in a southerly direction on the north side of Madison Ave, approximately 30 feet east of Auburn Blvd, crossing to get to the south side of Madison, well outside of the painted crosswalk. Norman ran directly in front of Valdiva in the #1 lane. Valdiva was unable to stop her vehicle prior to striking Norman.
An additional vehicle, a red Nissan Frontier pickup going w/b on Madison Ave may have also hit Norman at the collision scene. That vehicle fled the scene going w/b on Madison Ave. Norman sustained life threatening injuries at the scene and was transported to Mercy San Juan hospital by Sacramento Metro Fire where she died upon her arrival at the hospital. Valdiva did not sustain any injuries at this collision, nor was her Nissan damaged as a result.
CHP Investigators are asking for your help in locating the driver and vehicle involved in this collision. The suspect vehicle is described as a 2001-2004 red Nissan Frontier pickup truck king cab. It is unknown if the pickup has any collision damage. A photo as well as a video clip of the suspect vehicle will be posted to the CHP North Sacramento’s Twitter page @chpnsac as well as their Facebook page at www.Facebook.com/chpnorthsac.
