The Sacramento Police Department arrested 21-year-old Sean Joyner for the murder of David Blanks.

On October 24, 2009, at 1:52 p.m., the Police Department was notified by a security guard that someone had been shot in the parking lot in the 3600 block of N. Freeway Boulevard.  Officers arrived and located David Blanks who had been fatally shot.

Homicide and Crime Scene Investigators responded to the scene.  During the course of the investigation information was developed that indicated the homicide may have been gang related.  Gang detectives were called in to assist with the investigation.  Detectives determined that the victim was leaving a night club and walking to his car when he was contacted by a group of subjects.  Gang related words were exchanged and one of the subjects shot and killed the victim.  Detectives obtained information that indicated 20-year-old Nicholas Newsome and 21-year-old Sean Joyner were involved in committing the homicide.

On October 25, 2009, Gang detectives arrested Nicholas Newsome and charged him with homicide.

On January 20, 2010, Sean Joyner was arrested by the Sacramento Police Department for a DUI warrant and violation of probation and has been in custody since that date.  Today, detectives charged Joyner with homicide.

Photos of both suspects are not being released at this time.
