On July 9, 2010, at 9:48 a.m., Sacramento County Sheriffs deputies responded to the report of a kidnapping at an apartment complex in the 8700 block of Fair Oaks Boulevard. Deputies arrived and spoke to witnesses who told them 27-year-old Cuahutemoc Sergio Leon fired several gunshots through the front door of his 18-year-old estranged girlfriends apartment and then forced her out of the apartment at gunpoint. Leon then forced the victim into his car and fled the scene. The victim was not struck by the gunfire. Investigators were told by one eyewitness there was a three- or four-year-old child in the car at the time of the abduction. Based on that information, the Sheriffs Department coordinated with the California Highway Patrol to release a state-wide Amber Alert. At approximately 1:30 p.m., a CHP officer located the car at the Honey Lake rest stop on Highway 395 in Susanville, California. Leon and his ex-girlfriend were located with the vehicle. The victim was uninjured and Leon was taken into custody. No child was located; the eyewitness report of a child being in the car was erroneous. The Sheriffs department will arrange for the return of both Leon and the victim to Sacramento. Leon will be booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail upon his return. He will face multiple felony charges including assault with a deadly weapon and kidnapping.
