On July 10, 2010, at 4:45 p.m., Sacramento County Sheriffs Department Major Crimes Bureau detectives located and arrested 19-year-old Isaac Martinez for the murder of 22-year-old Damien Burkholder. Detectives found Martinez at a friends house on Ford Road in Sacramento.

Earlier in the morning, at 4:46 a.m., Rancho Cordova Police Department officers responded to the report of a shooting at an apartment complex located in the 3000 block of Laurelhurst Drive. Officers arrived and found Burkholder lying on a walkway between two apartment buildings and suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Paramedics arrived a short time later and transported Burkholder to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Witnesses reported hearing the sound of an argument followed by gunfire. Sheriffs Homicide detectives now believe Martinez and Burkholder became involved in an argument over a woman. During the argument Martinez pulled out a handgun and shot Burkholder.
