On July 15, 2010, at 6:42 a.m., Sacramento County Sheriffs Department Major Crimes Bureau detectives arrested 19-year-old Jaivonne Flenory-Davis for the recent murder of 14-year-old Lanajah Dupree and the wounding of another 17-year-old female at dance party on Auburn Boulevard. Flenory-Davis was arrested at a relatives apartment located in the 2600 block of River Plaza Drive in Sacramento. On July 11, 2010, at 10:17 p.m., Sacramento County Sheriffs deputies responded to the report of a shooting at the Venue 4 Rent private event facility located at 2902 Auburn Boulevard. Deputies arrived and found two female juvenile victims; Lanajah Dupree and the 17-year-old. Dupree was found lying in the doorway of the facility; she had been shot once in the upper body. The 17-year-old was found lying in the parking lot; she had been shot once in the upper body and once in the arm. Paramedics transported both victims to local hospitals. Dupree was pronounced dead shortly after she arrived; the 17-year-old is expected to survive. Sheriffs Homicide detectives now believe this shooting was gang-related. The victims, along with nearly two hundred other young people, were attending an under-21 dance party at the location. Detectives have learned an argument broke out between rival gang members inside the dance facility shortly after 10:00 p.m. Private security guards tried to calm the situation by directing the party goers to exit the facility. Detectives believe Flenory-Davis, who was standing at the edge of the parking lot, fired multiple gunshots into the air and then fired multiple gunshots into the crowd as the party goers were evacuating the facility. Detectives are convinced Flenory-Davis was shooting at rival gang members. They do not believe the two victims were his intended targets, nor do they believe the victims were involved in the argument between the rival gang members that led to the shooting. Flenory-Davis was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on the charges of murder and attempted murder. He is ineligible for bail and is scheduled to be arraigned on July 16, 2010, at 1:30 p.m. in Department 63.
