On July 18, 2010, at 7:57 p.m., Rancho Cordova Police Department officers responded to the report of a collision between two motorcyclists in the area of Freestone Way and Edington Drive. Officers arrived and found a 19-year-old male lying in the street suffering from severe injuries. Paramedics arrived a short time later and pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

When officers arrived there were approximately twenty motorcyclists who officers believe were involved in street racing activity. The area is an undeveloped residential neighborhood well known for both motorcycle, and car street-racing activity.

Investigators have learned the victim was racing a second motorcyclist when the two collided causing the victim to lose control of his motorcycle and crash. The 20-year-old male rider of the second motorcycle, along with several witnesses, was detained for questioning. The RCPD Major Accident Investigation Team will attempt to determine what caused the two motorcyclists to collide. The team will forward their report to the Sacramento County District Attorneys Office who will determine what charges, if any, will be filed in this case. Anyone who may have witnessed the collision, and who did not talk to officers at the scene, is urged to call RCPD Traffic Unit detective Ron Brazell at (916) 875-9623.
