Sacramento officer injured in accident

On February 8, 2011, at 11:07 a.m., a Sheriffs Deputy was injured after being struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Don Julio Boulevard and Antelope Road. The deputy was responding Code 3, with emergency lights and siren activated, to the scene of a residential burglary in progress.

While traveling northbound on Don Julio Boulevard approaching Antelope Road, the deputy stopped at the intersection and waited several seconds before proceeding through. With the patrol vehicles lights and siren activated, the deputy drove through the intersection, and was struck by a passenger vehicle traveling westbound on Antelope Road.

The deputy, a ten-year veteran of the Sheriffs Department, sustained minor injury and was taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation. A passenger in the other vehicle, a forty-nine year old female, was also taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The California Highway Patrol responded to the scene, and will be handling the investigation of this incident.
