1 dead in car accident on Rio Linda Boulevard
On February 17, 2011 at 9:08 p.m., Shara Cote, a 34 year old from Rio Linda was driving a white 1999 Ford F-150 pickup on southbound Rio Linda Boulevard south of Elwyn Avenue at an unknown speed. Becky Miller, a 53 year old from Rio Linda was driving a white 2001 Isuzu Trooper Rodeo on northbound Rio Linda Boulevard south of Elwyn Avenue. Cote allowed her vehicle to travel into the northbound lanes where the Isuzu was approaching, striking it head-on. The impact caused the Isuzu to spin counter clockwise and travel onto the east side of the roadway and into a ditch full of water. The Ford traveled in a clockwise direction coming to rest on the west side of the roadway.
Cote was transported to Mercy San Juan Medical Hospital (MSJ) with head trauma and lacerations. She was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision. Miller was trapped in the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. Millers 16 year old son was seated in the left rear of the vehicle and was ejected onto the east shoulder. He was transported to MSJ with major internal injuries and lacerations. His 16 year old girlfriend was seated in the middle rear and was also transported to MSJ with internal injuries. Both minor passengers were not wearing their seatbelts.
Cote is suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. Due to her injuries she has not been released from the hospital. This collision is still under investigation.
