2 dead in North Highland shooting, murder-suicide suspected
Shortly before 6:00 p.m. yesterday evening, Sheriff's deputies responded to a residence in the 5800 block of San Ardo Way in North Highlands, regarding calls of a shooting that had occurred. Upon their arrival, deputies found two adult victims, a male and a female, who had both suffered fatal gunshot wounds.
Preliminary investigation showed that the victims, who were brother and sister, had gotten into an argument during a family get-together at the residence. The subjects had apparently gone into the garage of the home during the argument, where the male subject shot his sister. He then returned to the living area of the home, where family members saw him holding a handgun. Family members hastily exited the residence, at which time the male subject returned to the garage and shot himself.
Homicide detectives are proceeding with the investigation of this apparent murder-suicide. At this time, it is unknown exactly what the subjects were arguing about prior to the shooting taking place.
Official identification of the victims in this case will be made by the Sacramento County Coroner's Office, when next of kin have been notified.
