Motorcyclist killed in Sacramento accident
On August 2, 2011, at approximately 10:10 p.m., Volodymyr Ryzhuk, a 29 year old from Sacramento, was driving a maroon 2001 Lexus GS430 on northbound SR-51 north of Marconi Avenue in the #2 lane at 65-70 mph. George Gerasimov, a 54 year old from Sacramento, was driving a black 1998 Volvo S90 on northbound SR-51 approaching the rear of the Lexus.
Adam Peralta, a 37 year old from Winters, was riding a black 2008 Harley Davidson motorcycle. For unknown reasons, Peralta drove his motorcycle in a southbound direction on the Bell Street off-ramp and entered onto northbound SR-51 in a southerly direction.
Ryzhuk observed the motorcycle traveling southbound in the #2 lane directly towards his vehicle. He turned his vehicle to the left in an attempt to avoid a collision but was unable avoid the motorcycle. The front of the motorcycle collided with the right front of the Lexus. Peralta was ejected from the motorcycle and sustained fatal injuries at the scene. Gerasimov was approaching the collision scene and observed dust and debris flying around. He began to apply the brakes of his vehicle but was unable to completely stop prior to his vehicle striking the motorcycle. Ryzhuk was transported to Mercy San Juan Medical Hospital for complaint of pain.
The roadway was closed for approximately two hours.
It is unknown if alcohol and/or drugs are a contributing factor in this collision pending a toxicology report. This collision is still under investigation.
