Police fire on suspect during car chase
On May 22, 2012, at approximately 7:27 a.m., Sacramento Police Department (SPD) auto theft detectives were advised that "Crime Alert" received a tip of the location of a possible stolen vehicle.
Detectives located the vehicle in the vicinity of Northwood Road and Woodcrest Road and contacted the California Highway Patrol due to the location of the vehicle being in the county. The vehicle being observed was a silver and blue 2002 Ford F350 pickup truck. A CHP Officer in a marked CHP patrol vehicle along with undercover officers were observing the parked vehicle when it began moving.
At approximately 8:09 a.m., officers observed the suspect vehicle (s/v) travel on westbound Whitney Boulevard where the marked CHP unit attempted to make an enforcement stop on the vehicle. The driver of the s/v failed to stop and attempted to evade officers by continuing to drive away. The s/v traveled at moderate speeds, but those speeds increased as the pursuit continued. The pursuit traveled through the Carmichael and Arden-Arcade areas, then on southbound Watt Avenue over Highway 50, then turned onto westbound Folsom Boulevard. Additional CHP units joined the pursuit. The s/v traveled onto northbound Notre Dame Drive. As the s/v approached the intersection of Lake Forest Drive an officer performed legal intervention in attempt to terminate the pursuit. The s/v spun out, striking the drivers side door of the patrol vehicle, pinning the officer inside. The officer fired his service weapon several times at the driver. A second CHP officer also fired his service weapon.
The driver of the s/v accelerated and fled the scene in a southerly direction on Lake Forest Drive. The s/v traveled into the Florin-Perkins area. As the driver traveled southbound on Elk Grove-Florin he turned west and drove through a strawberry field where he either stopped or became disabled. Two passengers exited the pickup and fled on foot. A perimeter was established from French Road to Elk Grove-Florin and Florin Road to Gerber Road. The suspects were located and arrested outside a residence located in a mobile home park on the north side of Gerber Road. The driver of the stolen vehicle has been identified as Robert Randall Bain, a 41 year old from Sacramento. The female passenger has been identified as Audi Rose Audine Bean, a 30 year old from Yuba City. After interviewing, the suspects will be booked into the Sacramento County Jail.
Charges are still pending at the time of this release.
