Free summer concerts and movies
Bust out the lawn chairs and save Friday nights as the Cordova Community Council launches "Summer in the City," a series of free outdoor concerts and movies beginning Friday, June 8 in Rancho Cordova.
Six great Friday nights of summer entertainment are planned at the award-winning Village Green Park amphitheater at 3141 Bridgeway Drive, just off Highway 50 at Zinfandel Drive.
The series kicks off on Friday, June 8 with rhythm and blues band "Mercy Me," a Sacramento area funk favorite and winner of SAMMIES music awards in both 2002 and 2005.
The series will include three free concerts to be held on second Fridays: Mercy Me on June 8; 80s and newer cover band Rock Monsterz on July 13; and a special "Pops in the Park" concert by the Rancho Cordova River City Concert Band on August 10. Admission to all concerts is free of charge.
The series will also include three free outdoor family movie nights to be held on fourth Fridays. Online voting for the movie choices closed last week resulting in the following line-up: The Sandlot on June 22; E.T. (The Extra Terrestrial) on July 27; and Ferris Bueller's Day Off on August 24. All movies will begin at approximately 8:45 p.m.
Food will be available at nearby restaurants and from food trucks, making for a total night out.
The Summer in the City series is produced by the Cordova Community Council and supported by the Cordova Recreation and Park District. Series sponsors include: City of Rancho Cordova, Rancho Cordova Dental Group and Orthodontics, Cordova Veterinary Hospital, SMUD, Golden State Water Company, Heritage Community Credit Union, National Career Education, SCS Security Fencing, and the California Carnival Company.
