Couple arrested in South Sac shooting
Two suspects are in custody in connection with the robbery and shooting of a woman in south Sacramento last week. Yesterday morning, Sheriff's Robbery detectives arrested Antione Estes-Dyson and Akayla Martin, both 18 years of age, at their residence in Sacramento. Both suspects were booked on charges of robbery and assault with a deadly weapon, and Estes-Dyson is also being held on a violation of parole.
On June 5, 2012 shortly before 9:00 a.m., a twenty-four year-old woman was walking with her 4 year-old child in the 7100 block of Lincolnshire Drive. A silver sport-utility vehicle with two occupants pulled up to the victim and the passenger, a black male adult, robbed the victim at gunpoint. During the robbery, the suspect shot the victim in the upper back. The suspects fled the scene with the victim's purse, and were not located. The victim was taken to a hospital and treated for her injury.
Approximately ninety minutes after this incident, the victim's credit card was used at a department store inside Arden Fair Mall. Upon discovery of this, detectives solicited the assistance of security personnel from the mall to assist them with the investigation. Security personnel were able to obtain video surveillance of the aforementioned transaction, and of the suspects' movement through the mall into the parking lot, where they departed in a silver-colored SUV matching the description of the vehicle used in this crime.
Further investigation led to the identification of Martin as the owner of the vehicle. Robbery detectives continued their investigation, which led to the identification of Martin as the driver during the robbery, and of Estes-Dyson, Martin's boyfriend, as the shooter. Due to the ongoing nature of this investigation, booking photographs of these suspects are not available at this time.
