Man Killed in North Sac Shooting on Edison Avenue
Sheriff's Homicide detectives are investigating a shooting in north Sacramento that claimed the life of a twenty-five year-old man yesterday evening. The victim, whose name is being withheld pending notification to his next of kin, suffered a fatal gunshot wound to his upper body and died after being transported to a local hospital.
Shortly after 10:45 p.m. on August 21, 2012, deputies responded to the Somerset Apartments at 2526 Edison Avenue, regarding calls of shots fired and a man down. Upon arriving at the scene, deputies found the victim lying in the street near the entrance to the apartment complex. Several people were standing around the victim, attempting to render medical assistance to him. Paramedics quickly arrived at the scene and transported the victim to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injury.
Preliminary information suggested that an argument between several males was overheard in the parking lot of the apartment complex, immediately prior to the gunshots being heard. The nature of the dispute was not immediately known, and investigators were working to develop descriptions of the people involved. It is believed that the victim was shot in the parking lot of the complex, and then made his way out to the street, where he was discovered by responding deputies.
