Woman Killed in North Highlands Shooting

Sheriff's Homicide detectives are investigating a shooting in North Highlands that claimed the life of a black female adult. The victim, whose name is being withheld pending notification to her next of kin, suffered a fatal gunshot wound to her upper body.

Shortly after 6:25 a.m. on August 27, 2012, deputies responded to the 3400 block of Myrtle Avenue to reports of a female down with unknown injuries.  Prior to deputies arriving, the Sheriff's Communications Center was advised by fire personnel that they found the victim and that they had pronounced her deceased at the scene.  Upon arriving at the scene, deputies found the victim in the parking lot between buildings at the business complex.
According to detectives, the victim was last seen shortly after midnight walking alone in the area.  Detectives do not have a motive for the shooting, any suspect description, or any reports of gunshots being heard during the evening or early morning hours.
