8 Year Old Boy Dies of Injuries, Father Jailed

On August 27, 2012, Sheriff's deputies responded to the UC Davis Medical Center regarding an injured child who had been transported by paramedics from his home. The 8-year old boy was determined to have suffered significant internal injuries consistent with blunt force trauma.

Detectives from the Child Abuse Bureau were contacted, and began an investigation. They determined that the boy's father, 31 year-old Robert Bonnard, was responsible for inflicting the injuries that his son sustained. Bonnard , who was at the hospital at the time, was taken into custody on charges of felony child endangerment and corporal injury to a child, and booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail.

On September 5th, 2012, 8-year old Eshawn Bonnard died as a result of his injuries. Investigation into this case is ongoing, and Sheriff's detectives are working together with the Sacramento County District Attorney's office regarding any additional charges that may be forthcoming.
