2 Killed in Shooting on West La Loma Drive
Sheriff's Homicide detectives are investigating a shooting in Rancho Cordova last night that left a man and a woman dead. Shortly after 8:30 p.m. on September 11, 2012. Sheriff's deputies and Rancho Cordova police officers responded to a call of shots fired in the 2000 block of West La Loma Drive. Two shooting victims, a male adult and female adult, were located inside an apartment. Paramedics arrived on scene and pronounced both victims deceased from their injuries.
Preliminary investigation revealed that a young girl had gone to the apartment where the victims were. Upon entering the residence, the girl was pushed to the ground by two males who rushed inside the apartment after her. After falling, the girl was able to make it back to her feet and flee from the apartment. She heard two gunshots as she ran from the residence to another location, where she notified other people of what had happened.
Upon arriving at the dispatched address, officers and deputies were directed to the apartment, where they found the victims. The female victim, approximately fifty years old, and the male victim, who appeared to be in his sixties, had each sustained a single fatal gunshot wound to the upper body. Detectives were working to identify the victims and determine whether or not they were residents of the apartment.
The motive for this crime is unknown and the investigation into this incident is ongoing. At this time, the suspects have only been described as two men wearing dark clothing and armed with guns. Identification of the victims in this case will be made by the Sacramento County Coroner's office, after notification has been made to their next of kin.
