Woman Killed in Accident on Sunrise Boulevard
Last night, at approximately 9:30 p.m., Rancho Cordova police officers were dispatched to a reported vehicle accident on Sunrise Boulevard north of Douglas Road. Upon arriving at the scene, they discovered a vehicle crashed on the center median, with a female driver unresponsive and trapped inside. Paramedics were dispatched to the scene.
Despite efforts by emergency medical personnel to perform life-saving measures and extricate the woman from the vehicle, she succumbed to injuries sustained in the accident and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The victim, believed to be in her 50's, was the only occupant of the vehicle, a 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse, and no other vehicles were involved.
Preliminary investigation suggested that the vehicle was travelling northbound on Sunrise Boulevard when it veered toward the shoulder and struck the curb. The vehicle then turned abruptly back toward the center of the roadway, with the driver losing control and striking a tree in the center median. The exact cause of the accident is under investigation, and is being handled by the Rancho Cordova Police Department's Motor Unit.
The identity of the victim in this case will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner's Office, after notification has been made to the next of kin.
