Man Arrested for Murdering Father
Sheriff's Homicide detectives have arrested a man in connection with the shooting death of his father earlier today. Daniel Cartwright, 18, was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on a single charge of murder, and is being held without bail.
At 10:40 a.m. today, Sheriff's deputies responded to the Monte Bello apartments in the 4000 block of South Watt Avenue. A male caller stated that he had shot his father, who was unresponsive inside the apartment. Upon arriving at the scene, deputies were approached in the parking lot of the complex by Cartwright, who identified himself as the caller. Based on the nature of the call, he was immediately detained without further incident.
Deputies were directed to an upstairs apartment, where they found a 40 year-old male with a gunshot wound to his upper body. Paramedics who responded to the location pronounced the victim deceased. A handgun was recovered inside the apartment, and is believed to be the weapon used in this incident. Cartwright was taken to a Sheriff's facility to be interviewed by detectives, and later transported to the jail.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the shooting took place several hours before the suspect called the Sheriff's Department. The reason for this delay, as well as the motive for this crime, remains unknown at this time. Anyone having information pertinent to this investigation is asked to call the Sheriff's Homicide Bureau at (916) 874-5115.
