John Carvana joins Drexel University
SACRAMENTO - Drexel University Sacramento today announced that it has named John Carvana to a newly created position as Manager of Career Services.
Carvana will play a key role when the university launches its full-time undergraduate program in business for students who have finished at least the first two years of their undergraduate education. He will also play a vital role in job placement and career advancement for students in Drexel's graduate degree program.
The undergraduate program, which begins in Fall 2013, will include a cooperative education (co-op) experience where each student receives six months of paid professional experience.
Carvana joins the Drexel staff after spending the last three years as Executive Director for Career Development Services at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. Before starting his tenure at Loyola Marymount, Carvana served as Director of the Career Resource Center from 2002 to 2009 at the University of the Pacific in Stockton.
"John brings an incredible amount of experience in helping students develop their career paths," said Dr. Sandra Kirschenmann, Associate Vice Provost and Executive Director of Drexel University Sacramento. "At Drexel, John will be able to leverage our nationally recognized co-op program to help students gain the experience they need to compete and be leaders in their respective fields."
Before moving to California, Carvana worked as a college and university relations manager and employment development director for Corning Inc., and worked in career development positions for Seton Hall University, Emory University and Texas State Technical College.
"Drexel has a tremendous national reputation as a top-ranked institution and I'm thrilled to be joining its Sacramento team," Carvana said. "Drexel is an innovative university that not only provides high-quality education, but also invests in helping its students gain the experience they need to be successful in their careers. I am looking forward to working with the Drexel team and further connecting the university with the business community."
Drexel University Sacramento's undergraduate degree program follows the launch in September 2012 of a specialized Master's in business administration for health care. Drexel currently offers students five master's, one doctorate and one post-baccalaureate program designed for working professionals in the fields of entrepreneurial business, human resource development, higher education and health care.
All of Drexel's academic programs are focused at the heart of Greater Sacramento's growth and economic development initiatives - health, entrepreneurial business, human resources and education.
