Woman who Gambled Away $288,000 in Public Funds Sentenced

District Attorney Jan Scully announced  that 51-year-old Christine Dupree was sentenced to 3 years and 8 months in state prison by the Honorable Kevin McCormick after pleading to embezzling public funds, forgery and admitting to an excessive taking enhancement.

Dupree was employed as a cashier by the Regional Transit District (RT). From October 27, 2008 to May 9, 2012, Dupree embezzled $288,000 in funds received by RT from outlets, such as government agencies and schools, which sold monthly passes for RT. Dupree falsified records and used unsold inventories to cover her thefts from detection. After a discrepancy in her records was found, RT ordered an audit and discovered the extent of Dupree's theft. Dupree lost all of the money gambling at Thunder Valley Casino.

Dupree was ordered to pay $288,000 in restitution, as well as an additional $23,845.77 for the cost of the audit.
