Baby Used to Steal Merchandise, Police Report
Two men were arrested after they brought a baby into a business and used it to help conceal merchandise that they were attempting to steal. Danny Williams, 26, the father of the child, and Deaire Jeffries, 31, were booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail yesterday afternoon on charges of burglary and child endangerment. Both suspects remain in custody and are scheduled to be arraigned later this week.
On January 8th, shortly after 2:15 p.m., Rancho Cordova police officers were called to the CVS Pharmacy in the 3300 block of Zinfandel Drive regarding a shoplifting in progress. Employees of the store reported that two men, later identified as Williams and Jeffries, were pushing a baby in a stroller while stealing items from the store. After paying for one item, the two men left the business with other merchandise concealed in the stroller as officers were responding.
Responding officers located and detained both suspects a short distance away from the store. They were positively identified by store personnel, and several items including DVD movies and bottles of alcohol were recovered hidden within the stroller. The toddler, identified as Williams' child, was taken into protective custody pursuant to her father's arrest. In addition to the aforementioned charges, Williams was also booked for a parole violation.
