18 Year Old Woman Ejected and Killed in Accident
On February 18, 2013 at approximately 11:10 p.m , Vladimir Sushinskiy, an 18 year old from Sacramento was driving a red 1998 Acura on eastbound I-80 transitioning to southbound I-5 at a high rate of speed. As Sushinskiy attempted to negotiate the curve in the roadway, he lost control of his vehicle and it traveled off of the north roadway edge of the transition road. The Acura traveled up an embankment, overturning, then traveling over a guardrail that borders the westbound I-80 to southbound I-5 traffic lanes. The Acura came to rest on its roof facing in a north easterly direction, partially on the shoulder and in the #1 lane, of westbound I-80 transition road to southbound I-5. The left rear passenger, an 18 year old female from Sacramento was not wearing her seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. She died at the scene.
Sushinsky was transported to Mercy San Juan Medical Hospital with moderate injuries. The right front passenger, 18 year old David Tkachuk, and right rear passenger, a 17 year old female, both from Sacramento we're transported to UC Davis Medical Hospital with moderate injuries. This collision is still under investigation and charges on Sushinskiy are pending.
The passenger who died has been identified as Liana Kotsura, an 18 year old from Sacramento.
