Man Arrested for Murder in Woman's Death
A man who contacted law enforcement officers to report the location of a woman's body has been arrested in connection to the death of that victim. Thomas Bennett, 38, was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail earlier on a charge of murder. He is being held without bail.
Yesterday evening, shortly before 9:30 p.m., the Sheriff's Department received a call from the Sacramento Police Department. SPD officers in the Natomas area had been waved down by a man, later identified as Bennett, who told them that a woman could be found inside a storage facility in the 3600 block of Blackfoot Way in Antelope. As it wasn't immediately clear whether Bennett was referring to a live or deceased person, SPD officers responded quickly to the location as they notified the Sheriff's Department.
Deputies raced to the aforementioned storage facility, meeting officers from the Sacramento Police Department there. SPD officers had been directed to a particular unit where the woman's body was located. Deputies and officers were able to access the particular unit and upon opening it, located a woman in her twenties deceased inside. The victim's cause of death could not immediately be determined. The identity of the victim will be made by the Sacramento County Coroner's Office, after notification has been made to her next of kin.
