Motorcyclist Killed in Rio Linda Accident
On August 27, 2013, at approximately 1:20 p.m., Jose Ruiz, a 43 year old from Rio Linda was driving a 2002 blue Ford F150 truck on eastbound Elkhorn Boulevard west of Marysville Boulevard. Ruiz was stopped in the eastbound lane preparing to make a left turn into a private driveway. Numerous vehicles approaching the rear of Ruiz's vehicle were slowing preparing to stop behind his vehicle.
Gregory Gutierrez, a 55 year old from Sacramento was riding a black 2004 Harley Davidson motorcycle on eastbound Elkhorn Boulevard west of Marysville Boulevard at approximately 40-50 mph. The motorcyclist approached the slower vehicles and began to travel eastbound in the westbound lane, passing slowed traffic. Ruiz began to make his left turn and the motorcyclist struck the left side of the F-150.
Gutierrez was ejected from the motorcycle and sustained major injuries. He was transported to Mercy San Juan Medical Hospital where he later died. Gutierrez was not wearing an approved DOT motorcycle helmet at the time of the collision. Ruiz was transported to UC Davis Medical Hospital for complaint of pain.
