21 Year Old Bicyclist Killed in Sacramento
On October 24, 2013 at approximately 8:05 p.m., a 38 year old male from Sacramento was driving a gold 2001 Honda CRV on eastbound El Camino Avenue west of Via Camino Avenue.
The Honda was traveling in the #2 lane at approximately 35-40 mph. A 21 year old male from Sacramento was riding an orange Schwinn bicycle on westbound El Camino Avenue (against traffic) in the bike lane or partially in the #2 lane west of Via Camino Avenue. The Honda struck the bicyclist and he was ejected from the bicycle and sustained fatal injuries at the scene. The bicyclist did not have a headlight on his bicycle nor was he wearing a helmet. The driver of the Honda was driving on a suspended driver's license. He was not injured in the collision. His nine year old passenger sustained minor cuts and abrasions. The name of the bicyclist has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
Alcohol and/or drugs do not appear to be a contributing factor in this collision. This collision is still under investigation.
