Pedestrian Killed in Suspected Felony DUI
On December 8, 2013 at approximately 5:12 p.m., James Carroll, a 55 year old male from Carmichael was driving a 2012 Toyota Camry on westbound Kenneth Avenue and stopped at the intersection of Fair Oaks Boulevard.
The driver made a left turn onto southbound Fair Oaks Boulevard and positioned his vehicle in the two way left hand turn lane. Husband and wife, Donald and Valerie Hendrickson ( 79 year old male and a 76 year old female) from Carmichael were walking from the west side of Fair Oaks Boulevard to the east side just south of Kenneth Avenue and were located in the two way left hand turn lane. Carroll failed to see the pedestrians crossing the roadway and the Toyota struck both of them.
Both pedestrians sustained major head injuries and were transported to Mercy San Juan Medical Hospital. Donald Hendrickson died from his injuries at the hospital.
Carroll was determined to be under the influence of alcohol and was arrested at the scene. He was booked into the Sacramento County Jail and charged with 191.5(a) PC- Gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and 23153 (a)(b)- Felony DUI causing injuries.
This collision is still under investigation.
