Share It

Sacramento, CA -- Part 2 in the series of Water Reduction Tips as California endures a drought due to an unseasonally dry winter.

On January 17th, California's Governor officially declared a Drought State of Emergency, residents and business owners are being asked to evaluate and reduce water consumption.

The series "Water Reduction Tips" will include action items many of us can do to help make a difference.

Water Reduction Tip 2: Lawncare & Landscaping

For many of us in California, the single largest water expenditure involves caring for one's lawn and landscaping. In addition, a large percentage of water for lawncare gets wasted due to inefficient systems and over watering. Reducing water use on lawncare and landscaping offers the biggest bang for your buck with the least impact on daily life.

Quick Tips

  • Research online or have a Lawncare Pro determine minimal watering requirements
  • Rain Sensors: Keep sprinklers off when not required.
  • Raise The Blade: (improves shade for roots and holds soil moisture)
  • Drought resistant plants and lanscape features save money year-round
  • Check local municipalities and manufacturers for rebates, tips and free audit services
  • For every 5 minutes of watering, cutting back to 4 minutes delivers a painless 20% savings
