At approximately 6:00pm on Sunday, March 2, 2014, the Rancho Cordova Police Department Traffic Unit responded to multiple calls of a vehicle versus a pedestrian collision on Zinfandel Drive, north of Frogs Leap Drive.

Shortly after Officers arrived, they encountered a 62-year old female lying on the pavement, next to a Ford Explorer.

Sacramento County Metro Fire units responded and treated the female and she was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.  The female later died at the hospital due to the injuries she sustained in the collision.

Based on statements from witnesses at the scene, the female was crossing Zinfandel Drive outside of a marked crosswalk and was struck by the driver of the Ford Explorer, who was unable to stop the vehicle in time.  The conditions of the roadway were wet due to inclement weather.

No parties involved in this collision were suspected of being under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
