Plan for Traffic Delays to Sacramento International Airport

Share It

SACRAMENTO,  CA-  Sacramento International Airport is urging customers to plan ahead for possible traffic delays caused by the Caltrans construction project on US Highway 50, which takes place April 22-June 25.

Caltrans is rehabilitating elevated portions of US Highway 50 located between 18th and 24th streets in midtown Sacramento. The project will require periodic closing of connector ramps to Highway 99 and Business 80, and congestion is likely on adjacent roadways as traffic is redirected to detours and alternate routes.

Whether catching an outbound flight or picking up friends, customers are advised to have back-up plans in case of delays and to stay-up-to-date on the project by visiting www.fix50.com.

Here are some other tips:

  • Listen to local TV and radio and scan online news sources for real-time traffic updates.
  • Download a traffic app on your mobile device to plot alternate routes and stay ahead of back-ups. Many apps, such as Google Maps and Waze, are free.
  • If you must drive through an active construction area, add extra time for travel.

Construction will continue on a 24-hour, seven-days-a-week basis until the work is completed, except for a break May 22-May 29 for Memorial Day.

The Sacramento County Department of Airports is responsible for planning, developing, operating and maintaining the county's four airports: Sacramento International Airport, Executive Airport, Mather Airport and Franklin Field. The regional economic impact of the Sacramento County airport system is more than $4 billion annually.
