7 Years to Life in Torture Case
District Attorney Jan Scully announced that the Honorable Cheryl Chun Meegan sentenced Sofronski Brookins to 7 years to life in prison.
On April 29, 2014, a jury convicted Brookins of aggravated mayhem, torture and a domestic violence assault charge. The jury also found true the allegation that he personally inflicted great bodily injury and that he had a prior conviction for domestic violence.
On August 17, 2012, Brookins became angry with the victim. He boiled a pot of water and held her against the wall while he poured it over her head, causing second-degree burns over seventeen percent of her body and significant permanent scarring.
