4 Sentenced in North Sacramento Murder Case

District Attorney Jan Scully announced that the Honorable Timothy Frawley sentenced Herbert Alvarez to 50 years to life in prison, Arlonzo Banks was sentenced to 45 years to life in prison and Darnell Williams was sentenced to 35 years to life in prison. Abdul Tanko was sentenced to 12 years in prison.

On May 15, 2014, Alvarez and Banks were convicted by jury of first-degree murder. The jury also found true firearm use enhancements as to each. Williams was convicted of second-degree murder and a firearm use enhancement. Tanko was convicted of voluntary manslaughter and a firearm enhancement.

On March 12, 2011, Alvarez, Banks, and Williams shot and killed the victim, Rashad Alexander, in the parking lot of the American Spirit Bar in north Sacramento. The shooting stemmed from a dispute involving the victim, members of Tanko's family and street gangs.
