Sacramento Man Arrested following Tahoe Pursuit
Placer County Detectives arrested 20 year-old Michael Anthony Potter of Sacramento, California on numerous charges including burglary, possession of stolen property, conspiracy, evading officers, and possession of a stolen vehicle.
On Thursday, July 31, 2014 at 5:55 am, Placer County Sheriff's Detective John Riella observed a suspicious vehicle leaving the Blue Stone Jewelry located at 495 North Lake Blvd, Tahoe City at a high rate of speed. Detective Riella heard window breakage in the area of the jewelry store moments earlier. Detective Riella attempted to stop the vehicle and the vehicle sped away. Detective Riella pursued the vehicle with lights and siren for approximately 4 miles, the vehicle slowed and two male passengers jumped out of the vehicle and ran off. The vehicle eventually stopped near Alpine Meadows Road and S/R 89 and the driver was taken into custody. The driver, identified as Michael Potter, 20 years-old of Sacramento, was found to be in possession stolen jewelry and a stolen vehicle at the time of arrest. Further investigation showed Blue Stones Jewelry's window had been smashed and a large amount of jewelry was taken. The stolen jewelry is valued at several thousand dollars. The vehicle used in the crime was stolen from a nearby neighborhood.
The Placer County Sheriff's Office is seeking the assistance of anyone who was in the area of S/R 89 and Rampart around 6:00am and may have seen or provided a ride for two male subjects. Both subjects were dressed in all black clothing. At this time, no further description of the subject is available.
