Abandoned Boats on the Delta

The Sacramento County Sheriff's Department Marine Enforcement Detail, in cooperation with the California State Division of Boating and Waterways, is making significant headway in cleaning up the Sacramento County waterways by removing abandoned watercraft and marine debris.

Abandoned watercraft within the Sacramento waterways are defined as any watercraft that is inoperative and neglected, submerged or partially submerged or that has been left by the owner without intent of removal.  These watercrafts are not only unsightly, but they are an impact to the navigation of others who use the waterways.  They alter our natural marine habitat and water quality, yet are quite costly to remove.

The Marine Enforcement Detail was successful in receiving grant funding through the Division of Boating and Waterways Abandoned Watercraft Abatement Fund and has identified twenty abandoned watercrafts for removal. The Sheriff's Department has obtained the services of Sean Alexander Marine Services Inc. and will be working diligently through the summer and fall months to abate the boats and debris.
