The Sacramento Police Department is investigating another incident of the Bait and Switch scam.

On February 10, 2010, at 11:10 a.m., in the parking lot of the 1400 block of Meadowview Rd., the suspect approached the citizen.  The suspect stated he was trying to donate money to local churches and requested the citizens assistance.  The suspect offered to pay the citizen for his help.   He told the citizen he wanted to donate $100,000 to the church and if the citizen helped him do that, he would give the citizen $30,000.  Another suspect approached offering to help as well.  The first suspect needed the citizen and the second suspect to demonstrate their good faith by showing some money of their own.  The second suspect leaves and returns with what appears to be cash.  The citizen believes this to be legitimate and provides his own good faith cash.  Ultimately, the Bait and Switch occurs and the suspect steals the victims good faith cash and flees the scene.

The suspect is described as a male Black, late 40s, 510, with a slight build.  He had short black hair and no facial hair.  He was wearing a tan cap, a tan jacket and green cotton pants.  The second suspect is a male Black, late 60s, 56, with a stocky build and short black hair.  He was also wearing a cap, tan jacket and tan pants.

The Sacramento Police Department cautions citizens to be very careful who they give money to.  Donations should be made only to known and reputable organizations.  Make every effort to verify the organization before making a donation and be wary when approached for large cash donations with the promise of compensation for assistance.

The Sacramento Police Department urges anyone with information pertaining to this crime to contact Crime Alert at (916) 443-HELP or text in a tip to 274637 (CRIMES). Enter SACTIP followed by the tip information.  Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
